Did you fall off the wagon?

Many people start of the New Year so motivated and determined that this is the year you are going to get back in shape and start eating healthy. But after a month or so, you fall off. What happened? What can you do to stay on track? Here are a few tips to get back on the wagon:

#1 Nutrition- There is a lot effort involved to preparing/eating healthy every day. If you have not been doing this prior, it is very overwhelming to start and maintain in the beginning. Start by prepping and eating healthy a few days a week. By doing this, it is much more sustainable and more likely to keep making healthier choices. I am not saying that you cannot indulge and eat something bad, just don’t eat bad all day. By starting your day with a doughnut or McDonalds breakfast sandwich, you’re going to keep making bad decisions the rest of the day. Try to start and end your day with a healthy choice.

#2 Exercise- If you are reading all of the social media posts about how to get in shape in 30 days, they do not know your current fitness status. Not everyone can just bounce right into a training program and see those types of results. This is how people get injured and easily give up. Start off with stretching and a light workout. By listening to your body, you can build up to more frequent and intense workouts. Please do not expect immediate results. I have had many people walk through my doors expecting to look like a celebrity they see in magazines in 30 days. Keep in mind that most people do not see significant results for 3 months. Focus on improvements, not perfection.

#3 Accountability- By surrounding yourself with people who want you to succeed, it can make the whole process more enjoyable. If that means having a training partner or personal trainer, you will be more accountable for your success. Everyone needs a kick in the butt sometimes.

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year and may this be your best year yet!
